The Puna man pleaded no contest in May on charges of kidnapping and felony abuse of a family member.

An unidentified victim on July 7 was assaulted, then forced into the back seat of a pickup truck, according to police.

An Ocean View man initially charged in Kona District Court in connection to a domestic incident and released on bail was indicted by a Kona grand jury.

50-year-old Ian Benjamin Winther of Ocean View made his initial court appearance Thursday morning in Kona District Court. He was ordered to appear May 30 for a preliminary hearing.

According to a probable cause statement filed in Hilo District Court, Mark Nakoa Akina was drunk during the altercation.

Hawai‘i Island police officers came in contact with the victim at Hilo Medical Center on Friday. The 57-year-old man told Hilo Patrol officers that his son, later identified as 30-year-old Mark Nakoa Akina, assaulted him at a residence on Paniolo Street during the evening hours of Wednesday and into the later afternoon hours of Thursday.

Derick Camacho is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Kona Circuit Court this afternoon. He remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail.

During an initial court appearance on Monday, Hilo District Court Judge Jeffrey Hawk maintained bail of $610,000 on 40-year-old James Pomaikai Kepa, of Kea‘au.

James Pomaikai Kepa is scheduled to make his initial appearance this afternoon in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $610,000 bail.

The Court had granted defense counsel’s request to dismiss the charges because the previous indictment did not specifically allege between one or more of the defined forms of “strong compulsion.”

New DNA evidence in the case excluded Albert “Ian” Schweitzer, whose conviction was overturned Tuesday. DNA found on key evidence belongs to another unknown individual.

On July 17, 2022, Derouin-Loando pleaded “no contest” to kidnapping and multiple charges of  domestic violence which spanned three cases before the Circuit Court.

A Hilo man initially charged with kidnapping a slew of other offenses in Hilo District was indicted by Hilo Grand Jury on Thursday.

Last December, Kepoo was sentenced to serve a 10-year prison term for seven felony  offenses, including kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threatening (with a knife), two counts of abusing a family/household member three counts of second-degree assault.
