Outrigger Resorts & Hotels announced Thursday it plans to acquire Kaua‘i Beach Resort & Spa in Līhu‘e, which would give the company a property on all four major Hawaiian islands.

The dilapidated remains of Coco Palms, which once hosted Elvis Presley, will be demolished and a new 350-room hotel and cultural center will be built on the Kauaʻi property, according to Utah-based developers that own the 46-acre site.

Hawai‘i’s largest major market area, the U.S. West, saw 80.6 percent of visitors indicating an interest in returning, followed by 77.8 percent of those from Korea, 67.1 percent from Canada, 64.7 percent from the U.S. East and 61.6 percent from Oceania.

State tourism officials and industry stakeholders have agonized over the impact government restrictions and personal hang-ups may have on the state’s economic recovery.

Travel to Hawaii was consistently down more than 90% across all major international markets.
