#Hawaii Register of Historic Places

Portions of Maunakea, including summit, now part of Hawai‘i Register of Historic Places

The lands, after any necessary revisions or edits to the nomination, will be forwarded by the state to the federal government to be considered for listing the lands on the National Register of Historic Places.

Big Island Now poll No. 40 results: Vote close between those who agree portions of Maunakea should be be listed as historic places and those who don’t

Out of the total 1,075 votes, 480, or 44%, said yes, of course those lands should be on the historic registers while 454, or 42%, said no, it’s not necessary.

Big Island Now poll No. 40: Should public lands on Mauna Kea above the 6,500-foot level be listed on the Hawai‘i and federal registers of historic places?

Two Big Island organizations are proposing public lands above the 6,500-foot level, including the summit, be listed on both registers as a traditional cultural property.

Kona Property Among Additions to Register of Historic Places

The Walter Irving Henderson house was added to the register for its significance at the local level under a National Register criterion for type of construction and as the work of a master.
