Remediation of the problem at the park in Kūhua, just north of Honomū on the Big Island’s Hāmākua Coast, is the responsibility of the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation since the lead likely came from paint on the Kolekole Stream Bridge overhead.

CIP Funds Released for Repairs of Hakalau Stream Bridge

Approximately $70,000 in capital improvement project (CIP) funding was released to design and rehabilitate the Hakalau Stream Bridge on the Hawaiʻi Belt Road.

Hakalau Stream Bridge/Park to Close Indefinitely

The Hakalau Stream Bridge located on Old Māmalahoa Highway will be completely closed beginning on Friday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m.
