Bill to Provide Stronger Protections for Flood-Prone Communities

The Repeatedly Flooded Communities Preparation Act would provide stronger protections for flood-prone communities.

Flood Advisory Issued for Entire Island

Locations in the advisory include the ENTIRE Big Island of Hawaii.

Flood Advisory Issued for Portions of Big Island

At 12:41 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain falling over the windward side of the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Rain was falling at a rate of about 1 to 2 inches per hour.

UPDATE: Flood Watch Issued for Big Island, State

A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for the Big Island, Kaho‘olawe, Lana‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i and O‘ahu through Sunday afternoon.

UPDATE: Thunderstorms, Downpours May Redevelop Tonight or Friday

A very moist and unstable air mass interacting with an upper level trough will result in unsettled weather with the potential for flash flooding.

UPDATE: Flood Watch Issued for Big Island

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch at 3:22 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, in effect through Wednesday afternoon for the Big Island.
