Hāmākua Sugar Days Festival, hosted by the Honokaʻa Heritage Center, marks the 30th anniversary of the closing of the last local sugar plantation with events planned through Oct. 20.

The Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary this year as it returns with in-person activities after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic — and thousands are expected to descend on the North Hawai‘i community.

The Hanukkah celebration, which the congregation has hosted for more than five years, is open to all faiths, all beliefs, all ages and all beings.

In honor of the molten theme, the festival featured booths decorated with sugary lava, chocolate volcanoes, and orchid and faux flames.

The 10-day festival will showcase award-winning coffee coming out of the southern Big Island town and also include a wide range of activities for coffee lovers young and old.
