Hawai‘i Island police unifying vice sections to more efficiently combat drugs
Capt. Edwin Buyten, who has worked within the department for 20 years, spending 15 years within West Hawai‘i Vice section from an officer to a detective to a lieutenant, will lead the unified fight against drugs in the county.
Fentanyl-related arrests and drug recoveries increase in East Hawai‘i
The monthly fentanyl report released by Hawai‘i Island police for April indicated there were six fentanyl-related arrests, five in East Hawai‘i [Area I] and one in West Hawai‘i [Area II].

To make naloxone more accessible, the Department of Health started sending over vending machines, each loaded with 63 boxes of the nasal spray, to the island. There are now seven islandwide.
Police presence may return to Kona airport to combat flow of dangerous drugs
“Office space that was previously available to Hawaiʻi Police Department at the Kona airport prior to the Federal Inspection Service Center opening will soon be available again,” said Hawa’i Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen.
