Hawaiʻi County to temporarily close Keaʻau Transfer Station for paving work

The Keaʻau Transfer Station in Hawaiʻi County will be closed on Sept. 17 for essential paving work, with operations resuming on Sept. 18.

The new leading edge of the lava flow has advanced approximately 300 yards since yesterday, bringing the flow within 250 yards of Apa’a St.

New Fast-Paced Lava Front Closes Roads

The new flow front has advanced approximately 425 yards since yesterday and is 0.3 miles from the Apa’a St. area. Road closures are in effect for the area.
