Hundreds of potential patients across Hawai‘i are asking how they can become certified to purchase medicinal marijuana while the state rests under the cloud of the coronavirus pandemic. The answer is — they can’t. 

The Hawai‘i DOH issued a Notice to Proceed to Acquire and Cultivate Marijuana yesterday to Pono Life Sciences Maui LLC for their production center on Maui.

Two medical marijuana dispensaries—one on Maui and the other on O‘ahu—are the first to receive approvals to acquire and grow marijuana for medical products.

The new laws don’t exactly represent a giant leap for stoner-kind, and could end up straining Hawaii’s increasingly scarce primary care physicians.
