As of April 26, there have been 273 DUI arrests compared with 302 during the same period last year.

Arrests were made in five of the eight districts and thirteen drivers were involved in a traffic accident.

During the first two weeks of 2026, Hawaiʻi Island police intensified their crackdown on impaired driving, arresting 25 drivers for DUI.

According to its monthly stats report, Hawai‘i Island police also recovered 42.22 grams of illicit fentanyl and 20.5 fentanyl pills.

A total of 708 DUI arrests have been made so far this year, a 7.69% decrease from the 767 made during the same period in 2024.

A total of 449 drivers have been arrested for DUI on Big Island roadways so far this year, a decrease of 3.23% compared with the 464 police took into custody within the same time period in 2024.

There have been 186 DUI arrests on the island in 2025, an increase of nearly 3% from the 181 motorists arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant by the same time in 2024. Another 15 drivers, including 6 who were not even legally old enough to drink, were arrested the week of March 3-9.

There also have been 7 fatal crashes and 8 fatalities on Big Island roadways since the beginning of 2025, a 40% increase for fatal wrecks and 60% increase for traffic fatalities already in just less than 3 months.

Police have made 106 arrests for driving under the influence of an intoxicant so far this year as of Feb. 9. That’s only 5 less, or a 4.5% decrease, from last year’s 111 DUI arrests during the same time period.

23 motorists were arrested for DUI throughout the week of Jan. 6-12, nearly twice as many than were arrested the first week of 2025. There had been a total of 35 DUI arrests made by Jan. 12 in 2025, a 20.7% increase from the 29 by the same date in 2024.

DUI arrests increased nearly 1% overall throughout all of 2024 on the Big Island, with 964 compared with 955 from the year before. The number of drivers arrested for DUI involved in traffice crashes and those younger than 21 also increased.

The Hawai‘i Police Department recovered 562.94 grams of illicit fentanyl in 2024, which is enough to potentially kill 281,470 people.

A 30-year old man was arrested by Puna patrol officers while they responded to calls from a reported burglary in the Hawaiian Beaches Subdivision last Tuesday.

Big Island police had made 873 DUI arrests so far this year by the end of that week, a 2.95% increase compared with 848 during the same period last year.

Six of those arrests were made in Kona, followed by Hilo with 4. South Kohala had 2 DUI arrests, with and Kaʻū and Puna each having 1.

The Hawai‘i Police Department also recovered a total of 4.86 grams of illicit fentanyl last month, including 4.06 grams in East Hawai‘i and 0.8 grams in West Hawai‘i. That’s enough to kill 2,430 island residents.

So far this year, there have been 78 DUI arrests compared with 91 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.3%.

So far this year, there have been 935 DUI arrests compared with 962 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.8%. 

So far this year, there have been 499 DUI arrests on the Big Island compared with 526 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.13 percent.

So far this year, there have been 378 DUI arrests on the Big Island compared with 393 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.8 percent.
