64 cats, kittens captured at Queens’ Marketplace; relocated to Big Island homes
In reaction to a ban on feeding feral cats at Queensʻ Marketplace in Waikōloa Village in order to protect endanered nēnē, two local animal rescue organizations conducted a relocation project. They captured 64 felines and delivered them to homes across the Big Island — after being spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

At the direction of Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green, Chair Dawn Chang of the Department of Land and Natural Resources came to the Big Island to “broker peace” with cat groups upset the state mandated the removal of feeding and watering stations to protect nēnē in Waikōloa.
