The funding is meant to directly benefit the public through programs addressing issues such as educational concerns, culture and arts, needs of the poor, youth, kūpuna, those with physical or emotional disabilities, crime victims, those affected by health or social crises or public health and welfare of people and the environment.

The goal of the study is to determine where other routes could be placed to help alleviate the district’s longstanding issues of traffic congestion and need for another evacuation route when natural disasters strike, such as eruptions and lava flows, and better access for emergency response.

Hawai‘i’s native forest birds, water birds, seabirds and yellow-faced bees will benefit from federal funding in support of conservation projects throughout the state, including on the Big Island.

A research team led by a University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center researcher received a $2 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to conduct public research examining how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected mental health and tobacco and other substance use among Hawai‘i’s young adults.
