#17 motorists arrested

Six of the drivers arrested for impaired driving during the week were involved in traffic crashes; five were younger than 21 years old.

A total of 449 drivers have been arrested for DUI on Big Island roadways so far this year, a decrease of 3.23% compared with the 464 police took into custody within the same time period in 2024.

Seven of those DUI arrests were made in Kona. Hilo, South Kohala and Puna had 3 each and one driver was arrested for DUI in Kaʻū. Seven of those drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of them were younger than 21 years old.

So far this year, there have been 965 DUI arrests compared with 1,057 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.7%.
