Job Description:The East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation is currently seeking a Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, or Licensed Practical Nurse to join our clinic team. This position will be responsible for assisting or directly providing patient care in our outpatient clinics through the performance of a variety of nursing support tasks in accordance with established methods and procedures and performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements for one of the positions below. Please note that, unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.Nurse Aide: Entry Level Knowledge of personal hygiene and bodily care. Nursing experience preferred. Full PerformanceIn addition to the entry level qualifications, one (1) year of work experience in a health facility such as a hospital or similar medically oriented institution where the primary or basic objective was to observe and report on a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implement care and/or treatment procedures for a caseload of patients.Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills, first aid; patient rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics; principles of growth and development; purpose and benefits of activities of daily living; purpose and benefits of restorative care, basic medical and nursing terminology; assess each patient's age specific needs; and independently provide age specific direct personal care services to a caseload of patients.Medical Assistant:Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA) from the National Healthcare Association (NHA); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT); or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Evidence of certification is required with the application. Entry LevelOne (1) year of work experience which involved independently observing and reporting a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implementing care and/or treatment procedures for a case load of patients.Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic clinical skills; first aid; patients' rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics'; basic medical terminology; and the ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; and assist in providing paraprofessional nursing care to patient receiving care on an outpatient basis. Clinic experience preferred.Substitutions Allowed: * Completion of a professional nursing curriculum from an accredited school substitutes for the experience required for the entry level.
Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT-A) or Paramedic (EMT-P) substitutes for the experience required for the entry level.
One (1) year of work experience as a dental assistant as described in the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) for Hawaii substitutes for the experience required for the entry level.
Full PerformanceOne (1) year of progressively responsible work experience as a Medical Assistant in an Outpatient Clinic or similar health institution setting assisting professional licensed clinical staff in the provision of care to outpatient patients.Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical practices, techniques and procedures; functional anatomy and human physiology.Substitutions Allowed: * Current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse substitutes for the experience required for the full performance level.
One (1) year of work experience as an EMT or Paramedic substitutes for the experience required for the full performance level.
Licensed Practical NurseA current State of Hawaii license to practice as a practical nurse. Evidence of licensure is required with the application.Compensation for LPN roles includes a shortage differential. Entry LevelKnowledge of the nursing process; body structure and function; principles of asepsis; universal precautions; infection control; principles of administering medications; patient preparation for prescribed treatments and procedures; data-gathering techniques; interpersonal communication skills; alternative methods of communication for patients with special needs; environmental and patient safety; patient rights, etc.Licensed Practical Nurse experience preferred. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment for NA/MA, one (1) month for LPN. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred.
