Job Description:JOB OVERVIEW: The Retail Pharmacy Technician, under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, is responsible for performing tasks involved in getting patients their prescription medications including inputting prescription information, billing insurance, filling prescription medication, managing pharmaceutical inventory, answering phone calls, and providing customer service to patients.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but not limited to): * Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
Resolves customer concerns in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
Registers new patients and creates a personal file into the pharmacy operating system.
Updates existing patient information on file (contact, insurance, allergies).
Intake of written and electronic prescriptions, and ensuring all information is accurate and complete.
Accurately preparing patients prescription medications by counting/filling, packaging, and labeling items.
Assist with insurance claims processing.
Ensure the availability of drugs by monitoring and maintaining accurate inventory.
Monitor drug expiration dates and recalls, separating them from active drug inventory.
Monitor and maintain adequate pharmacy and office supply levels.
Maintain pharmacy's (and its patients) safety by adhering to infection-control procedures, policies and regulations.
Maintain proper storage and security conditions for all drugs.
Assisting customers with the purchase of their prescription medications and OTC items.
Responds to the requests of the patients and healthcare providers, answering questions and referring various inquiries to the Pharmacist.
Answers telephone calls, checks voicemails and triages them to the appropriate team member.
Filing and storage of hardcopy prescriptions in an organized, readily retrievable system in compliance with federal and state laws.
Complying with rules, regulations and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy, such as by sterilizing equipment and surfaces, vacuuming/sweeping floors, emptying trash cans.
Maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA law and company policies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Requires broad training and experience a community pharmacy setting with knowledge of current Federal and State laws, regulations, and standards pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.Education: High School diploma or GED.Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail/community pharmacy setting. This experience must demonstrate the applicant's understanding of a pharmacy technician's scope of practice; knowledge of the procedures, policies and practices of a retail pharmacy operation; various third-party plans; pharmaceutical vocabulary; storage requirements; the ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations; current drug forms, dosage strengths, and generic/trade name and traditional equivalents. Experience in a high-volume pharmacy preferred.Certification: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (adult, child, and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in BLS Health Care Provider (adult, child, and infant) is appreciated. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is preferred.Knowledge of: Current drug forms, dosage strengths, and generic & trade name, Federal and State laws/regulations relating to the practice of pharmacy, organizational and time management skills, advanced verbal and written communication skills.Ability to: Interpret and apply laws; interact effectively with team members, patients, and providers; read, understand, and transcribe pharmaceutical information; multi-task; provide exemplary customer service.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to perform a variety of duties as dictated by various demands and changing conditions, able to meet physical demands of the job including standing for long periods of time, frequent bending, reaching, and walking; learn and operate pharmacy computer systems and other equipment in a fast-paced environment.Company Description:East Hawaii Health Pharmacy is the East Hawaii Region's retail pharmacy located in the lobby of Hilo Medical Center.
