Job Description:The Cook is responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking food for hospital patients/residents, employees and visitors, maintaining and cleaning the work area, practicing safe and sanitary handling of food, equipment and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.General Experience: One (1) year of experience in quantity cookery; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.Substitution of Education for Experience:1. An Associate in Science degree, from an accredited college in culinary arts, food service management, or comparable major, which demonstrated knowledge of quantity cooking, may be substituted for the General Experience.2. A Certificate of Achievement (at least 30 semester credit hours) from an accredited college in culinary arts, or comparable major, which demonstrated knowledge of quantity cooking, may be substituted for the General Experience.3. A Certificate of Completion (at least 12 semester credit hours) from an accredited college in culinary arts, or comparable major, which demonstrated knowledge of quantity cooking, may be substituted for six (6) months of General Experience.Knowledge Of: Quantity cookery; use and care of cooking utensils and equipment; kitchen safety and sanitation requirements;methods of handling and storing foods; personal hygiene.Ability To: Instruct and supervise others in cooking activities; estimate amounts of raw foods necessary to meet menu requirements; plan cooking schedules to meet scheduled meal times; get along well with others; tolerate kitchen heat; perform menu planning and food purchasing as required; perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical of the class.Company Description:As the Big Island's leading providers of inpatient and outpatient care, the East Hawaii Region of Hawai`i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), consisting of Hilo Benioff Medical Center, Honoka'a Hospital, Ka'u Hospital, and the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, delivers a full range of services and programs.
