Solo exhibitions by artists Snezana Petrovic and Chenta Laury will open with a reception on Saturday, June 8 from 5-7pm.

Adaptive Frameworks is a solo exhibition of recent artwork by Maui based artist, Chenta Laury. The exhibition will showcase the artist’s exploration of various fibers traditions related to her identity: African American patchwork quilting, Finnish felting, and kapa/tapa (bark cloth) traditions of the Pacific. Laury uses these traditional processes in a contemporary way, merging together “fine art” and “craft” to explore concepts of reconciliation, displacement, adaptation, and diaspora. While her artwork responds to the various refugee crises in the world, she is particularly interested in how all these themes play out here in Hawaiʻi.

Bionic Garden- The Fossils of Our Future is a solo exhibition by Los Angeles based artist, Snezana Petrovic. Through a combination of an immersive installation, 3D printed objects, video art, and digital prints, the artist contemplates what the end of the Anthropocene era that we live in might look like as a result of our overuse of plastics. a futuristic, post-human environment filled with the fossils of imagined plants and creatures. By mixing natural materials and industrial plastic products, Petrovic’s artwork is a call to action for humanity’s ingenuity to find solutions to the current climate crisis.
