Join Us for Malama Awake'e Day: A Call for Volunteers to Protect Our Environment!

[Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i] — On February 15, 2025, we invite you to be part of an inspiring movement of care and conservation during Malama Awake'e Day, a community initiative dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of our local environment. This year, we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join us in a variety of impactful activities aimed at nurturing our natural resources and promoting sustainability.

What is Malama Awake'e Day?
Malama Awake'e Day is a celebration of our undeveloped beachfront and a commitment to environmental stewardship. The word "malama" means “to take care of” in Hawaiian, and this day embodies our obligation to protect the beautiful ecosystems that enrich our lives. From coastal cleanups, restoration of sensitive cultural sites and educational workshops, participants will have the opportunity to engage with nature, learn important conservation skills, and connect with fellow community members who share a love for the Earth.

How You Can Get Involved:
We need volunteers who are passionate about the environment, regardless of your skill level! Join us in one or more of the following activities planned throughout the day:

  • Beach Cleanups: Help us remove debris that threatens marine life and habitats.

  • Restoring and Protecting Culturally sensitive sites of Iwi Kupuna

  • Removing invasive species

  • Educational Workshops: Participate in hands-on workshops led by conservation experts on sustainable practices and biodiversity.

  • Family-Friendly Activities: Bring the whole family for engaging activities that foster environmental awareness in our youth.

Event Details:

  • Date: February 15, 2025

  • Time: 8:00 AM - 12::00 PM

  • Location: Trail Head to Makalawena, Queen Ka`ahumanu Hwy. (South of Kua Bay Entrance)

  • Registration: Please sign up in advance at kihamanafoundation@gmail.com to join us.

Why Your Participation Matters:
Your involvement is crucial! Every hand counts in our efforts to safeguard our natural resources and advocate for a healthier planet. By volunteering, you not only contribute to meaningful change but also inspire others in the community to consider their role in environmental conservation.

Let’s work together to create a brighter future for our planet. Join us on Malama Awake'e Day, and help us share the message that caring for our environment is a collective responsibility.
