Every 1st Saturday of the Month | 9:00 am - 3:00 pm |
Three galleries, an Artisans HUI and a make your own charcuterie board workshop, are the backbone of this month's First Saturday in Waimea!
The Isaac's Art Center, part of the HPA campus, Hawaii Preparatory Academy, and next door to the Community Center, is both a museum and gallery, representing two centuries of Hawaiian Art and culture. At the Isaac's, you will find the beauty, strength and resilience of Hawaii, painted and sculpted by Hawaiian masters of old, along with current local artists. All proceeds go to support student financial aid at HPA.
Across the street in Parker Square, you'll find the Gallery of Great Things, an extraordinary collection of Hawaiian, Polynesian and Asian Art, locally sourced in a cozy, Hawaiian country-styled set of shops. A delightful array of paintings, carvings, jewelry, bowls and furniture.
Four minutes away and next door to the post office is The Firehouse Gallery, Home to the Waimea Arts Council. Their current show, A Sense of Place, focuses on the unique and vibrant scenery of our island through varying media; from volcanic mountain slopes and lush rainforest mauka to golden beaches and rocky shores makai. Show runs through April 27th.
Last and never least, the Artisans HUI at Kamuela Hardwoods is ever flourishing. Ajna Joy Ch'iu Lichau's work, is inspired by a sense of place; morning dew, the flora that sings and the sky filled with dreamy images. Her dew drop images mix well with Hannah Simmon's watercolors of seafaring life, surging waves and birds eye views of coral isles. At times, Hannah and family bring part of their alpaca herd, Wayfaring Alpacas. This Saturday the alpacas will be represented by ULANA handcrafted rugs, inspired by traditional Hawaiian motifs and natural beauty. All this pared with wood carvings, engravings and bowls, fine furniture and a barn filled with Hawaii's exotic hardwoods. Be There or Be Square! or ... join our charcuterie board workshop, $45 includes all materials, with Jimmy Wray as your guide.
