Big Ol' Nasty Getdown Set To Release First New Music of 2026

The LiL Nasty Getdown, the touring incarnation of the acclaimed collaborative collective The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown, is heading to Hawaii this June for a special run of performances alongside The Familyhood Nextperience, an improvisational dub-funk-reggae collective led by Fishbone co-founder Norwood Fisher and featuring the legendary H.R. of Bad Brains/Human Rights.

The Hawaii dates arrive as The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown prepares to release its first new music of 2026 with an upcoming two-song 7-inch single arriving this summer with an all-star cast of musicians.  First up is the song "The Saddle," dropping June 17, featuring Rev. Desmond D'Angelo (The Soular System) on vocals and lyrics, Remco Hendriks (Remco's Groove Lab) on bass, Alex Skolnick (Testament) and Mike Green (Pearl Aday) on guitars, John Heintz (Trulio Disgracias) on Moog, and Wesley Ritenour (Lee Ritenour Band) on drums. Next up is "Prizes," featuring vocals and lyrics by Angelo Moore (Fishbone), lyrics by John Heintz, bass performances from Remco Hendriks and Josh Paul (Suicidal Tendencies, Daughtry), Mike Green on guitar, and Tosh The Drummer (Lady Gaga) on drums.

Presented by Norwood Fisher and Krissy Lee Entertainment, The Familyhood Nextperience brings together an all-star lineup featuring H.R. (Bad Brains/Human Rights), Norwood Fisher (Fishbone, Trulio Disgracias, Big Ol' Nasty Getdown), John "Wet Daddy" Steward (Fishbone, Trulio Disgracias, Blackened Sabbath), Dre Gipson (Fishbone, Eek-A-Mouse), Bobby Easton (Long Beach Dub All-Stars, Big Ol' Nasty Getdown), and Van G. Martin (John Brown's Body, G. Love), joined by special guests from The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown and The LiL Nasty Getdown: John Heintz, Rev. Desmond D'Angelo, and Frank Mapstone.

Explaining the origins of The Familyhood Nextperience, Fisher says, "The Familyhood is the perception that the band and its fans are a familial symbiosis, a mutual support system. I came up with this when pondering the fans of Fishbone around the mid-'80s. Nextperience is the organic creation of your future in the ever-present now, untethered by the chains of the past. Musically expressed as honest improvisation, the pursuit of saying something brand-spankin' new."

Concertgoers can expect an unforgettable evening spanning H.R.'s 50-year musical journey
including selections from Bad Brains and beyond, alongside deep explorations into all-
improvised psychedelic dub. Every performance is built around spontaneity, groove, and musical discovery, creating a unique experience each night.

Joining the tour is The LiL Nasty Getdown, the leaner, road-ready incarnation of The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown. Founded by producer and bassist John Heintz, The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown has spent nearly two decades bringing together musicians from iconic acts including Parliament-Funkadelic, Fishbone, Jane's Addiction, The Meters, 311, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Galactic, Kool & The Gang, and many more. 

Created specifically for live touring, The LiL Nasty Getdown distills the collective's expansive roster into a dynamic lineup that delivers the same explosive blend of funk, rock, soul, blues, and improvisational jams that have made The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown a festival favorite. Featuring a rotating cast of world-class musicians from the Getdown family, every performance celebrates collaboration, musicianship, and the power of the groove. More than a band, The LiL Nasty Getdown is a traveling funk-rock revival, carrying forward the spirit, legacy, and larger-than-life sound of The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown in a format built for the road without sacrificing any of the fire that has defined the collective since its inception.
