Kahilu Exhibits, at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, is proud to host two solo art exhibitions by Hawaiʻi Island luminaries Wayne Levin and Marcia Ray opening with a public reception on Saturday, March 15 from 5-7pm. Each year, Kahilu invites masters to take over their Simperman and Suli T. Go Galleries with displays featuring their most recent artworks alongside artworks from earlier in their careers.
Through the years, Wayne Levin has documented the world through the lens of a camera with an unmatched artistry. The resulting photographs have been featured in exhibitions around the world and groundbreaking books that are familiar to most who call Hawaiʻi home. Explorations: A Retrospective 1965-2024 will present over 60 examples of Levin’s iconic and stunning images in Kahilu’s Simperman Gallery in Waimea.
Inspired by Hawaiʻi’s natural beauty, Marcia Ray has been living and painting in her Waimea home and studio since 1977. Perhaps best known for her iconic Paniolo murals in Waimea’s Parker Ranch Center, Ray is also a master of oil painting, watercolors, woodblock prints, and mosaics. In Soft Surrealism, Ray presents new works that assemble imagery and iconography to tell deeply personal but easily relatable stories.
Both artists will be available to talk story at the Opening Reception this Saturday, March 15 from 5-7pm. This event is free and open to the public.
