Hilo Community Players Presents Constellations — A Smart, Romantic Exploration of Love and Infinite Possibility
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Hilo Community Players invites audiences to experience Constellations, the Olivier Award–winning play by Nick Payne that explores love, chance, and the infinite paths a single relationship can take.
“One relationship. Infinite possibilities.”
Constellations asks a deceptively simple question: in how many universes would you love the same person? Blending quantum multiverse theory with deeply human emotion, the play follows Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a quantum physicist, as their relationship unfolds across a series of parallel moments—each shaped by tiny shifts in choice, timing, and circumstance. What begins as playful “what ifs” gradually forms a poignant and moving portrait of “what is,” examining free will, friendship, love, and loss with humor and profound tenderness.
Directed by Dr. Rachel Klein and featuring two of Hilo’s most accomplished professional performers, Constellations
Performances run January 30 through February 8 at the beautiful, air-conditioned Keawe Theater, located at 280 Keawe Street in Hilo. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Tickets are available online now at hiloplayers.org, with tickets priced $5 more at the door.
CAST:
Danny Randerson (Roland) is a creative and passionate actor whose recent work includes musical theater roles in Avenue Q, Shrek, and The Wizard of Oz at the Hilo Palace Theater. While he enjoys music, his true passion lies in acting. Danny earned his Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Hawai‘i, where he studied and performed works by Brecht, Beckett, and Shakespeare, as well as traditional Jingju and Noh theater. He later trained extensively in New York with Terry Knickerbocker in Brooklyn, studying and practicing the Meisner Technique. In this production, Danny offers a small glimpse into what it means to exist in a universe we may never fully understand.
Molly McGivern (Marianne) is a stage and film actor with stage credits playing the leading roles in Evita, The Sound of Music, Steel Magnolias, with film credits on Lost, and the latest Indiana Jones.
