Department of Public Works and police have verified reports of a new fissure, number 18, opening up on Halekamahina Loop Road to the west, or Kalapana side of Highway 132.

Minor spattering activity has been reported from a new fissure, 16, that has opened about 6:45 this morning about 1 mile northeast of fissure 15.
