Total of nearly 190 DUI arrests made on Big Island roadways so far this year
There have been 186 DUI arrests on the island in 2025, an increase of nearly 3% from the 181 motorists arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant by the same time in 2024. Police have made 106 arrests for driving under the influence of an intoxicant so far this year as of Feb. 9. That’s only 5 less, or a 4.5% decrease, from last year’s 111 DUI arrests during the same time period.
83-year-old Minnesota visitor critically injured in Hilo traffic crash
The collision happened at about 2 p.m. Monday. Police report that a Dodge Ram was turning left onto Kapi‘olani Street from Ponahawai Street when it struck the elderly Minnesota man while he was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk.
