The eruption at Nāpau Crater continues and serious hazards still exist.

Heavy rain hit North Kona and South Kona communities for several hours yesterday afternoon flooding portions of Hualālai Road, Kuakini Highway, Ali‘i Drive and parking lots throughout Kailua-Kona.

The current lava flow at the middle of the eastern rift zone could create hazards for visitors such as cracks and toxic fumes.

She was last seen in Hilo on Sept. 16 at around 3:30 p.m.

Hawai’i Fire Department personnel responded to a swimmer in distress call early the afternoon of Sept. 17 at the Boiling Pots section of Wailuku River State Park. The search for the unknwon man was suspended nearly 4 hours later.

Rain rates are starting to decrease and should continue to dissipate throughout the evening.

The US Department of Transportation has given Alaska Airlines permission to close on its $1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, after the carriers agreed to maintain key Hawaii routes and adopt consumer protections. This exemption allows the carriers, which are respectively the fifth and tenth largest domestic airlines, to finalize their merger while maintaining separate operations until DOT rules on their transfer application.

In 2023, the first sighting reported to the nonprofit was Oct. 25.

The eruption is located on a remote section of the middle East Rift Zone in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.

According to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, the brief eruption occurred near the National Park Nāpau campsite (east of Kānenuiohamo and Makaopuhi Crater and west of Nāpau Crater) on the middle East Rift Zone between 9 and 10 p.m.
