Hula hālau (hula school) participants from across the world have been taking the stage at the iconic Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium in Hilo for the past couple of days to participate in the 58th Annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival.

The development of rigorous safety guidelines and a television broadcast plan will allow for the safe return of the Merrie Monarch Festival after it was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers and sponsors are working together on options for holding the Merrie Monarch Festival in 2021 amid the looming COVID-19 pandemic.

The Group Hula ʻAuana competition is set for 6 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium.

The Merrie Monarch Festival’s Royal Parade is set to begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, through Downtown Hilo.

The Merrie Monarch Royal Parade begins at 10:39 a.m.; Group ʻAuana at 6 p.m.

The Group Hula Kahiko is set for 6 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019, at Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium.

The Merrie Monarch Festival continues with a week-long schedule of cultural events and activities through Saturday. Group Hula Kahiko will be featured tonight.

Performances celebrating the Merrie Monarch Festival will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center is Hilo.

Taizha Keakealani Hughes-Kaluhiokalani won the title of Miss Aloha Hula Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium in Hilo, Hawa‘i.

The Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair takes place through Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The Miss Aloha Hula competition will be held today, in addition to the continuing free, midday entertainment and Arts Fair.

An exhibition of hōʻike hula and folk dance from around the Pacific begins at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, at the Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium; no tickets required.

The Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair begins today and the evening will feature Hōʻike performances.

The Hawai‘i Fashion Showcase is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, at the Grand Naniloa Resort, featuring some of Hawai‘i’s most prominent designers.
