Kona’s ‘Tiki Shark’ Parker Sues
Kona artist Brad “Tiki Shark” Parker is suing a California retail website over beachwear he says has his work printed on it without permission, Pacific Business News reported. CafePress Inc., target of the lawsuit, responded saying the claims are “without merit.” Parker’s Kailua-based Tiki Shark Art Inc. sells his paintings in galleries world-wide.

Fried Pineapple and Haupia Dip

Island Fish & Chips owner Tiffiny Kost has reopened at the King’s Shops with a bigger kitchen and new menu featuring tantalizing items like fried pineapple with haupia dip. Also new is a kids’ menu, “Keiki Grindz,” for kids 10 and under. Open 9:30 to 9:30 seven days a week at the Kings Shops, Kohala Coast.

New BIVB Marketing Team

Donna Kimura has been named marking director, and Teresa Cosgrove the new sales manager, in the Big Island Visitors Bureau’s West Hawaii office. Kimura worked briefly for BIVB in 2009 and left to became a freelance communications consultant. Now she’s in charge of development, budgeting and annual marketing plan for BIVB. Cosgrove, former leisure sales manager at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, will provide support to the sales and marketing teams.

Gold Tee Awards

For the third consecutive year, Meetings & Conventions magazine honored Hilton Waikoloa Village and Waikoloa Beach & King’s Golf Courses with 2013 Gold Tee Awards, the result of voting by managers for the top golf and meeting hotels and resorts around the world.

Harmon Moves to Cellana

Cellana, a leading developer of algae-based feedstocks for biofuels, animal feed and Omega-3 nutritional oils, has appointed Valerie Harmon as senior director of research and development at its Kona Demonstration Facility. Harmon has 25 years experience in industrial- and commercial-scale algae development and production. She formerly worked at Aurora Algae and Cyanotech Corp.
