Hospice Hosts Floating Lanterns Ceremony

North Hawaii Hospice will host its third annual sunset release of floating lanterns into Pauoa Bay at The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The release of the lanterns is an Asian spiritual tradition symbolizing “the wish for all beings to live in peaceful coexistence,” according to a Fairmont Orchid news release for the event.

The release of lanterns will be preceded by live music, hula, Taiko drummers and Hawaiian chanting starting at 5 p.m.

Katherine W. Ciano, executive director of North Hawaii Hospice, said the hospice was nearly “overwhelmed” at last year’s fundraiser with more than a thousand people participating.

“We look forward to partnering once again with the Fairmont Orchid to honor and remember those who have passed,” she said.

Admission is free. Floating lanterns for decorating and inscribing personal messages on will be available for donations of $10 each to the North Hawaii Hospice.

North Hawaii Hospice is a non-profit hospice organization that helps seriously ill patients and their loved ones maintain quality of life to the end of life.
