Man Charged for Threats That Prompted School Lockdowns

Police have charged a 23-year-old Kona man accused of making threats that resulted in Monday’s lockdown of schools in Honokaa and Waimea.

Lyle Kawika Pascubillo was charged Tuesday night with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.

He was being held today in the Kona cellblock in lieu of $4,000 bail pending his initial court appearance.

Pascubillo allegedly made numerous threatening telephone calls and text messages to a 25-year-old Honokaa woman.

Police said text messages received by the woman referred to the threat of violent actions taking place at the school in Honokaa and Waimea Elementary School.

According to Lt. Gerald Wike of the Kona Criminal Investigation Section, the woman who received the threats had no association with any of the schools.

The threats prompted the lockdown of all schools in Waimea and Honokaa from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.

The lockdowns were lifted following Pascubillo’s arrest.
