The Mystical Snake – Hilo’s Chinese New Year
Whether or not you believe in astrological forecasting and animals of the Chinese Zodiac, have a little fun with the mystical Feb. 9, in downtown Hilo. Ring in the Chinese New Year with family and friends.
Hopefully, your attendance will gather some good luck and focus for the year ahead.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the 11th Annual Chinese New Year Festival will celebrate our ancestors and sprinkle the grounds with interesting arts, crafts, and of course delicious food.
If you heard that the event was cancelled, well, for a bit of time, that was true. However, Hilo without its Chinese New Year is a noticeable loss. Happily, the show goes on.
This year Kobudo Taiko will perform their Shishi-Mai lion dance to spread good fortune. This festival has been a fixture of downtown Hilo for the past decade. It’s given the young and old something to marvel at, laugh with and enjoy for a day.
However, the operation and planning of such a festival doesn’t operate in a vacuum. Festival organizers ask that those that feel inclined to give back to their community, do so by offering their support.
