Hawaii Community College’s Office of Continuing Education and Training is offering a class entitled “Maximizing Your Money with Coupons” on Jan. 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Students will learn techniques to improve their coupon use, where to look for coupons, as well as techniques and strategies for using different types of coupons.

The class is taught by Big Island Now business writer Denise Laitinen.

“By teaching others the strategies I’ve learned to save money with coupons, I hope others can save money as well,” says Laitinen.

Laitinen also finds a use for coupons after they expire.

She has partnered with Support Our Troops, a national non-profit that gathers coupons to be used by military families at bases overseas.

“Often times, military families don’t have access to the coupons we take for granted,” Laitinen said.

“Their cost of living is also higher. Fortunately, coupons at military bases overseas are valid for six months beyond their expiration date.

“Sending coupons to the troops is a way to help them and their families and show them that we appreciate all they do for our country.”

For more information or to register for the class, call Estee Nathanson at the OCET office, (808) 934-2700 or email estherss@hawaii.edu.
