The county Department of Water Supply is continuing its work on the new Ahualoa-Honokaa transmission line which requires periodic service interruptions in the area.

The need for additional water connections requires shut-offs today along the Old Mamalahoa Highway from Sawmill Tank to Kinimaka Road. Others to be affected including customers along Kapuna Road to the Camp 10 Reservoir.

All of the outages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The outages will continue Thursday from the highway’s intersection with Kapuna Road to the Mauna Loa Road junction, and to Pikake Street from Hagiwara Tank to Mauna Loa Street.

On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the shut-offs will move to the area along the Old Mamalahoa Highway from Punono and Pu`aono roads, including all services along Kahana Drive from the highway to Kalehua Road.

When water service is turned back on the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time customers may notice turbid or discolored water. Air may also be trapped in plumbing but will be released as water is used.

The department is reminding affected customers to take any and all precautions necessary to protect property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps or any other devices whose normal operation may be dependent on water pressure and/or water supply, and which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shutoff.
