Hilo Pet Groomer Expands Staff and Hours
To many people, their pets are more than just animals—they are a cherished member of the family, to be spoiled and loved.
All that pampering means business is good for one local pet grooming salon.
Shear Magic Pet Salon in Hilo has recently expanded both staff and operating hours to accommodate increased demand for pet owners looking to primp their pets.
Owner Karen Furtado, herself a certified Master Groomer for 15 years, established the salon in 2006.
She recently hired three new professionally trained pet stylists to join her salon staff.
Johnny Rakosky is certified as a professional advanced pet stylist at the American Grooming Academy, one of the top pet grooming schools in the country.
Kristen Hagberg is certified as a professional pet stylist and is currently pursuing her certification as a professional advanced pet stylist.
Masaki Fontes was trained and certified as a pet stylist in Okinawa, Japan under the country’s strict requirements.
Located behind the Hilo Shopping Center at 1204 Honu Street, the pet salon offers the basics, such as bathing, blow drying, brushing, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, nail trimming and fur cuts.
Furtado points out that they also offer a host of specialized services too.
Vivid hair color dye treatments, glittery nail polish, conditioners and fragrances, even massages and aromatherapy are all available to promote and maintain your pet’s emotional and physical health.
She adds that the state-of-the-art equipment and products used are naturally safe both for your pet and for the environment.
The pet salon also expanded its hours and is now open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
In addition to being certified as a pet groomer, Furtado is also a certified American Kennel Club (AKC) trainer and evaluator, helping owners better communicate with their puppies and dogs to learn basic behaviors.
Through the salon she sponsors different dog training classes, including a puppy class that begins on January 10.
A Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class, which further builds on socialization skills and obedience will also be offered in coming months. The next CGC class is scheduled for March 7.
Both classes are available to dogs of any breed. For more information go to www.shearmagicpetsalon.com or call (808) 935-5630.
