Verizon Expands 4G Network on Big Island
Verizon Wireless announced it will expand its 4G Long Term Evolution cellular network to additional areas of the Big Island, the company said in a statement issued today.
The new areas slated for coverage include Glenwood, Volcano, Papaikou, Pepe`ekeo and Waimea.
The expansion will occur in “the coming weeks,” the company said.
Last month, Verizon announced that plans to expand 4G LTE coverage across a wide swath of West Hawaii, including Kailua-Kona and Keauhou; the Honokohau small boat harbor area; the upper Kona areas of Kealakekua and Captain Cook; Waikoloa Village; and the South Kohala resort area.
According to the company, Verizon’s 4G LTE network is available to more than two-thirds of the US population.
