The weekend is nearly here once again and with it, a much-deserved break. Take in the laughs, enjoy the music, or play cheerleader at a Kona marathon. Whatever the desire, it is your time.  Monday and all its responsibilities will be here soon enough.

Augie T. Brings the Funny

If you find yourself on the West side of the island, take a drive and steer yourself to Kanani’s, formerly the Mixx Bistro, on Friday.

Funnyman Augie T. will stir Hawaii’s ethnic melting pot and cook up belly-shaking laughter with astute  observations and impressions of the locals.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $15 at the door. Kanani’s is located at 75-5626 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.

Jazz at Banyan Drive Café

On Saturday night, the East side’s Banyan Drive Café will feature ukulele virtuoso Brittni Paiva and jazz saxophonist Tom Scott from the L.A. Express joined by Volcano Choy and the Volcano Jazz Ensemble. Paiva will perform music from her new CD “Tell U What.”

This new live-music venue will celebrate the café’s grand opening. Tickets are $20 at the door. Banyan Drive Café is located at 87 Banyan Drive in Hilo. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Kona Marathon

On Sunday, Athletes will compete in in a variety of races on a scenic course overlooking the Pacific.

The 19th Kona Marathon opening ceremonies take place at 5 a.m. with the marathon itself beginning at 5:30 a.m. at a point one-fifth of a mile from the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort on Alii Drive.

The half-marathon begins at 6 a.m., the 10k will start 15 minutes later and the 5k runners will begin at 6:50 a.m.

Live entertainment will be provided from 9 to 11 a.m.

Awards will be given for the 10k and 5k winners at 9:30 a.m. An hour later, the marathon and half-marathon winners will collect their awards.
