Kona Community Hospital earns accreditation from country’s largest healthcare accreditor
The hospital was recognized for meeting established standards and delivering safe, high-quality care to patients.
Kona Community Hospital has earned the widely recognized Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals, Hawaiʻi Health Systems announced Friday.
Accreditation was awarded by the Joint Commission, the largest healthcare accreditor in the country, a news release said. The independent organization helps ensure healthcare organizations adhere to leading quality and safety practices.
The hospital earned accreditation following an unannounced, on-site visit assessing its compliance with established standards.
“This accreditation is a reflection of how our staff shows up for every patient, every day,” said Clayton McGhan, regional chief executive officer of the West Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems.
During this summer’s unannounced survey, a Joint Commission team assessed compliance across key areas including emergency management, physical environment, infection prevention, and control and medication management. Surveyors also reviewed patient records, observed care, and interviewed patients and employees.
Hospital accreditation is valid for three years.
