Hilo police investigate death of a man found unresponsive in Kūawa Park Monday

Hawaiʻi police are investigating the death of an unidentified adult man whose body was found on Kūawa Street in Hilo.

At approximately 7:06 a.m., South Hilo officers responded to Kūawa Park for a report of an unresponsive man near the fence at the park. Officers located the body of an adult man lying on the ground near the fence line on the north shoulder of Kūawa Street fronting the park with suspicious injuries.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification and notifying any next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, Sept. 16, 2026, to determine the exact cause of death.
