County schedules public hearings for proposed solid waste fee increase
Hawaiʻi County Department of Environmental Management will host public hearings later this month for a proposed increase in solid waste disposal fees.

Sept. 16: East Hawai‘i

The proposed fee increases are the first since 2024 and reflect changes in the consumer price index.
Proposed fee changes
West Hawaiʻi Sanitary Landfill
- Current: $128 per ton
- Proposed new: $138 per ton
East Hawaiʻi Regional Sort Station
- Current: $128 per ton, plus $26 per ton reload disposal fee for commercial haulers
- Proposed new: $138 per ton, plus $28 per ton reload disposal fee for commercial haulers
East and West Hawaiʻi Organics Facility
- Current: $32 per ton
- Proposed new: $34.50 per ton
