Flood advisory issued for northern districts of Hawai‘i Island

A flood advisory was issued for the northern districts of Hawai‘i County until 6:15 p.m.

At 3:21 p.m., Doppler radar indicated areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms over the interior and northern Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with the heaviest showers upslope of Waimea.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Waikōloa Village, Kapa‘au, Honoka‘a, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Pōhakuloa Camp, Pu‘uanahulu, Kamuela, Puako, Kawaihae and Hōlualoa.

Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas and in streams is anticipated. A flood watch is also in effect.
