The body of a woman discovered in June in South Kohala was identified as Sarah Marie Andes, who was previously reported as missing and endangered nearly 30 days before.

On June 30, Hawaiʻi Island police initiated a coroner’s inquest following the discovery of a decomposed body in a stream near the 65-1200 block of Kawaihae Road in Waimea, according to Hawai‘i Police Department. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

An autopsy conducted on July 7 positively identified the decedent as Andes, 64, of Honoka‘a. The cause of death remains undetermined pending toxicology results. Foul play is not suspected.

At this time, police have not been able to contact any family members or next of kin.

Police are asking anyone with information about living relatives or this incident to contact Detective Cacique Melendez of the Area II Criminal Investigation Section at 808-326-4646, extension 3262, or by email at cacique.melendez@hawaiipolice.gov.
