Decomposed body discovered in stream on Hawai‘i Island

No foul play is suspected, and the Hawai‘i Police Department has initiated a coroner's inquest investigation.

No foul play is suspected after authorities discovered a decomposed body in a stream in South Kohala.

Hawai‘i Island police responded to the area near the 65-1200 block of Kawaihae Road at 9:29 a.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived on scene, officers found the body in the shallow water where the road intersects with Hawai‘i Belt Road.

“The body was in an advanced state of decomposition,” according to a press release from the Hawai‘i Police Department. “At this time, police do not suspect foul play.”

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the decedent’s identity, sex, and cause of death. Identification is pending.
