Mahuna will welcome community members from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. June 23 at Kea‘au Community Center, located at 16-186 Pili Mua St., in Kea‘au.

These talk story sessions reflect the chief’s commitment to community engagement and are aimed at strengthening communication and connection between police leadership and community members.

Meetings rotate around Hawaiʻi Island and provide residents an opportunity to meet directly with Mahuna and district commanders to share concerns, ask questions and discuss public safety issues in an open, conversational setting.

The informal format is intentional and reflects the department’s goal of being accessible and responsive to the community.

“Bringing our residents and officers together in one room allows us to break down any barriers, share vital information and, most importantly, enhances our ability to work collaboratively towards solutions” said Mahuna in an announcement about the upcoming meeting.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.

The July meeting is slated for July 29 in Kona at a location to be announced.
