Tuesday surf update: High surf warning downgraded to advisory for Hawai‘i Island

The National Weather Service has downgraded the high surf warning for south-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island to an advisory level until 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

West Hawai‘i’s Kahalu‘u Beach Park, Kohanaiki Beach Park and the pavilions at Old Kona Airport Beach Park are still closed as county crews clear debris washed up by the King Tides over the weekend.

Surf peaked up to 14 feet this morning and is gradually easing through tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Wave run-up is expected during the peak high tide in the afternoon. A combination of surf and high water levels could produce nuisance coastal flooding.
