Costal flooding possible during high tides through early next week

National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu say minor coastal flooding is possible during high tides through Tuesday, June 16, as peak monthly high tides will combine with higher-than-expected water levels.

A coastal flooding statement was issued, alerting the public to the possibility of minor flooding along the shorelines and in low-lying coastal areas throughout the entire state, especially near daily peak tide, which will be during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Isolated minor coastal flooding can be expected on vulnerable low-lying coastal roadways and near docks, boat ramps and other coastal infrastructure.

Flooding of beaches that are normally dry, some minor coastal erosion and saltwater inundation of low-lying roads, docks, boat ramps and other coastal infrastructure also is possible.

The public is advised:

• Do not drive through flooded roadways.
• Owners of properties in low-lying shoreline areas or near waterways should consider moving any electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground.
• Boaters should monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and be aware of overwash around boat ramps at high tide.
• Any recreational watercraft on beaches, such as canoes, should be secured or moved.
