Hawaiʻi Police Department advises the public to AVOID portions of two West Hawaiʻi roadways impacted by landslides caused by the strong magnitude-6.0 earthquake in the Hōnaunau-Nāpōʻopoʻo area.

Large rocks and debris fell onto Nāpōʻopoʻo Road, between the 10-mile marker and Middle Keʻei Road. Both lanes of the roadway will be CLOSED for the next several hours while crews clear the debris.

Hawaii Police Department also advises the public to AVOID Highway 11, between Rabbit Hill Road and Manuka State Park, in South Kona because of large rocks and debris falling onto that roadway because of the Friday night, May 22, earthquake.

Crews will be in the area for several hours removing the debris. Drive with caution.

The large earthquake struck shortly before 10 p.m. Friday about 7.5 miles south of Hōnaunau-Nāpōʻopoʻo at a depth of just greater than 15 miles on the west flank of Mauna Loa.
