Hawai’i Island Police search for missing Eden Roc woman

Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in locating a 61-year-old woman reported missing from the Eden Roc area.

Joan Sachiko Mayo, formerly known as Joan Hamamoto, was last seen Wednesday evening at a residence on 17th Street in Eden Roc, according to police.

Authorities said Mayo was wearing a brown or apricot-colored short-sleeve shirt and blue jeans when she was last seen. She was also accompanied by her dog, Moanlisa, a white-and-brown spotted Catahoula mix wearing a brown choke collar and a light brown vest with a bell attached.

Authorities described Mayo as Asian, about 5 feet 3 inches tall and 125 pounds, with shoulder-length black and gray hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Mayo’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.
