23 motorists arrested for DUI during week of April 6 to April 12 on Hawai‘i County roads
Twenty-three motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of April 6 through April 12.
Thirteen of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

Arrests occurred in five out of the eight districts: seven in Kona, six in South Kohala, five in Puna, four in Hilo and one in Kaʻū. So far this year, there have been 242 DUI arrests compared with 273 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.36%, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police.
Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 284 major crashes so far this year, compared with 286 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 0.70%.
As of April 12, there have been four fatal crashes, resulting in four fatalities, compared with nine fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 55.56% for fatal crashes and a decrease of 60% for fatalities.
In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
