15 drivers arrested for DUI during week of March 9-15

Fifteen motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of March 9-15, with seven of them occurring in the Kona District.

Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police.

So far this year, there have been 167 DUI arrests compared with 197 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.23%.

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 214 major crashes so far this year, compared with 204 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 4.9%.

As of March 15, there have been four fatal crashes, resulting in four fatalities, compared with seven fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 42.86% for fatal crashes and a decrease of 50% for fatalities.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
