Crews assessing size, cause of brush fire at Pōhakuloa Training Area

Pōhakuloa Training Area firefighters contained a blaze over the weekend that ignited on one of the training ranges on Feb. 4.

According to the PTA Public Affairs Officer Lani Pascual, the fire flared through Thursday and Friday. It is currently 100% contained.

Response and suppression operations included bucket drops and protocols to adjust training according to mitigation plans. No structures, wildlife or cultural sites are present in the affected training area.

As of Monday, crews and range control were conducting an assessment for the size of the fire and review the cause(s).

Pascual said the firefighter staffing levels were appropriate for the response.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
