Man injured during robbery on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a robbery in Hilo early the morning of Sunday, Jan. 11, that left a man with a fractured jaw and a concussion.

According to the police, the victim was approached by three men outside a business in the 200 block of Kanoelehua Avenue around 2 a.m. A heated conversation escalated into violence, and the man was repeatedly struck while one of the suspects allegedly stole cash from his pants pocket.

The victim was taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for treatment.

Police describe one suspect as a local male in his 20s to 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 220 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a gray shirt, a gold chain and a green-and-yellow baseball cap.

A second suspect was described as a local male in his 20s to 30s, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray shirt, a gold chain and a black hat.

No description was available for the third suspect.
